Walking Together Program

The Walking Together Program supports refugees and newcomers settling in Western Australia. The program provides structured assistance to individuals and families as they navigate the practical, social, and cultural transitions associated with relocation.

Support begins at arrival, where volunteers may meet individuals at entry points and assist with initial orientation. This is followed by guidance sessions covering essential aspects of daily life, including local culture, public transport, driving requirements, and pathways to employment.

The program offers practical assistance with key administrative processes, including registration with services such as Centrelink and Medicare, as well as general healthcare access. Volunteers also assist with securing accommodation and establishing essential services, including electricity, water, gas, internet, and mobile connectivity.

Where eligible, participants may receive grocery vouchers to support initial settlement needs. The program further assists families in identifying appropriate schooling and university pathways, and facilitates referrals to specialised service providers when required.

Participation is open to those committed to practical and respectful support. The Walking Together Program aims to promote stability, integration, and self-sufficiency for newcomers within the Australian community.
