Our Mission
St Mary’s Outreach Service (SMOS) is a not‑for‑profit charitable Association established to assist individuals and families who are marginalised, less fortunate, disadvantaged, or otherwise in need within society.
SMOS provides support to persons experiencing hardship, including but not limited to those in need of food, clothing, shelter, and companionship, and particularly seeks to assist persons living in conditions of poverty at a level below acceptable Australian community standard.
In conducting its mission, SMOS engages and collaborates with the Coptic Orthodox community throughout Australia, its churches, federal, state, and local government bodies, other charitable organisations, and the wider community, in order to fulfil its charitable objects.
Through the grace of God, our Lord Jesus Christ, the mission of St Mary’s Outreach Service (SMOS) is to alleviate the hardships faced by those in need within the community through the provision of essential goods and services.
-
SMOS was founded through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ by Fr Abram Abdelmalek, Parish Priest of St Mary and Archangel Michael Coptic Orthodox Church in Western Australia. Established in 1997 under the name “The Lord’s Brethren”, the ministry has grown into a vital charitable association serving individuals and families facing hardship across the community.
-
Central to everything we do is the embodiment of Coptic Orthodox Christian values and the proclamation of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. SMOS believes that by showing compassion, care, dignity, respect, and love, we reflect Christ’s teachings and uplift those who are struggling.
-
SMOS assists individuals and families experiencing poverty, social isolation, or circumstances that place them below an acceptable Australian standard of living. We also support those who simply need food, clothing, shelter, or friendship. Every person is welcomed with dignity and treated with the respect they deserve.
-
To fulfil its mission, SMOS collaborates with:
The Coptic Orthodox community across Australia
Local Coptic churches
Federal, state, and local government agencies
Other charitable organisations
The wider Australian community
These partnerships enable us to deliver comprehensive support and build strong networks of care.

Our logo represents our belief that we are all men and women equally created in the image of God. Although we come from different directions and different walks of life, our hands are equal, reaching out for each other, and together we are one, united in the Body of Christ, as symbolized by the cross.
It is this belief that convicts us to engage and reach-out to developing communities. Our vision is a world where all people have access to the basic necessities of life, such as clean water, food and shelter, as well as opportunities to grow and develop as dignified members of healthy and happy communities.

Love and respect without any prejudice or discrimination – whether it be race, political views, religion.
We do not discuss politics or religion in our services.
We operate with other charities – that share similar values.
