The Reach Australia Initiative: Disaster Appeals and Relief, an initiative of St Mary Outreach Service (SMOS), is a national program dedicated to responding to emergencies and natural disasters across Australia. The program provides coordinated support during times of crisis, assisting individuals, families, and communities affected by events such as bushfires, floods, and other large-scale disruptions. 

The initiative operates through two core functions: disaster appeals and relief delivery. Through structured fundraising appeals, SMOS mobilises financial and in-kind support, ensuring that resources are directed efficiently to areas of greatest need. Relief efforts include the distribution of essential supplies such as food, water, clothing, hygiene kits, and other critical items, delivered in collaboration with local partners and community organisations. 

In addition to immediate response, the program contributes to early recovery by supporting affected families with practical assistance and referrals to specialised services. All activities are conducted with a strong emphasis on coordination, transparency, and accountability. 

The Reach Australia Initiative aims to provide timely, compassionate, and organised support, ensuring that communities are not only assisted in moments of crisis but also supported in their path toward recovery and stability.
