Healing Prayer Program
The Healing Prayers Program, an initiative of St Mary Outreach Service (SMOS), is dedicated to supporting hospital communities across Australia through structured and compassionate intercessory prayer. The program seeks to strengthen the spiritual well-being of patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
Volunteers visit hospitals and health centres to pray for the sick and injured, as well as for doctors, nurses, administrative staff, and all those who contribute to the functioning of the healthcare system. The program also extends its prayers to national leadership, including the Minister of Health, and the broader Australian health system, acknowledging the complexity and responsibility of healthcare governance.
Where appropriate and welcomed, the program offers near-bed prayer, Scripture reading, and informal chaplaincy support. These interactions are conducted with sensitivity, respect for personal beliefs, and in accordance with institutional guidelines.
Participation is open to all who wish to join in prayer, whether as recipients or contributors. The Healing Prayers Program aims to cultivate an environment of peace, hope, and spiritual encouragement within healthcare settings, complementing clinical care with compassionate presence.
